Artist's Statement
The panning shot of the bike rider uses a technique that we learned in the shutter-speed unit. I like the colors of the fill-the-frame photos of the cranberries and the yellow leaves; we learned about filling the frame in our composition unit of the course. The high key and low key images are ones I shot for the lighting assignment and the still life is one that followed, where we used the techniques of the lighting assignment to create the black abyss as the background. I enjoy those photos the most precisely because of the effect of the white or black abyss created by the lighting with the backdrop.
The photograph whose subject matter means the most to me is the Physics professor chalice, because I found that chalice the day after I half-heartedly decided I would be a business major instead of studying quantum physics after I get my bachelors and maybe masters degree at Harvard extension school. Finding that chalice on the side of the road, which I mentioned in my reflection, reaffirmed by decision to study something that is challenging and time-consuming but that is a long-term goal that I want to pursue.
