Reflection:
This was by far the most challenging assignment we have had. From the examples it looked like there were shadows in both Texture and Diffused Lighting photos, but I did not include much shadow in Texture and none in Diffused Lighting. However, I used a softbox and a white umbrella which I shone light through, so I did use diffused light, I just did not achieve a shadow. It was at times too close to the high key image also but I tried to use less light and had adjusted aperture more in the high key lighting picture compared to the diffused lighting picture.
I learned about the different umbrellas because I purchased a photo set that came with two black/silver reflective umbrellas and two white umbrellas. I also puchased two softboxes with the knowledge that my boyfriend and I would be using them for taking pictures for our ebay stores.
I learned a lot about lighting, and white balance adjustment. I did not have a gray card so I ended up using a white poster board to measure white balance. I tried using a phone app, and even purchased Light spectrum pro but since my camera (Nikon 5100) does not measure temperature in Kelvin the app did not work for me.
The light painting was an interesting assignment. The whole project was interesting and a great educational experience. I had never painted with light before and at first started during the day time, but I had to wait until night fall for the light painting to work.
I realized during the shooting of this project how powerful the lighting of the sun is. I had to keep adjusting the location/ placement/ and direction of the lighting studio to avoid the shadows from the window. I could not do the light painting or diffused light pictures until the sun had set, and I used the softboxes and white umbrella for the diffused light. I was attempting to get a shadow but gave up on that.
For future application I will be using high key lighting for taking pictures of products. I have an ebay store and my boyfriend has an ebay store that he is much more actively selling in. I have not updated my inventory in a while, but when I do, or when I help my boyfriend take pictures of clothes or any item he is selling I will definitely be using high key lighting, as it makes the product stand or pop out.
